Description: A broadside view of UP Big Boy #4012. The Big Boy
steam engines, built in the 1940's by the American Locomotive Company
(ALCo), were, and still are, the world's largest steam locomotives. Their
4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement means the boiler has to be articulated to fit
around curves. I don't think this photo does justice to the sheer
size of this locomotive. |
